Icarus

Icarus
by Alysha Newton

The difference
between
flying
and falling
is millimeters;

however many
it takes to turn
blue tiles
into sky or sea

and how long
you can flap
your arms
to look like wings
to stay afloat in
bottomless burning
silver spoons
eating your
reflection
and spitting it
back out-

each time,
less distance,
and each taste
difference, until

you’re twelve
steps
too late
in one
last
attempt
to touch
and feel
the sun.
